The thing is, I have yet to see any Democrat campaign promises actually HAPPEN so I would be just thinking bullshit! if I bothered to watch interviews. Any interviews would be hand-picked and curated. IMO, Harris will only blather promises to her fans at the DNC and at rallies. It is very weird, though, to keep seeing Harris described as a Socialist or whatever by the GOP when she has no intention of doing or sharing anything with we the peasants.
Subservient media - yup, all around. One cannot be "pro-Palestine", one must be "pro-Hamas" and/or antisemitic. And yeah, the slavering obeisance to Harris and the taking of every opportunity for a cheap fake shot at Trump is quite evident.
I just heard that the crowd who stuck around for her crowned speech were really sticking around for a Beyonce appearance. Which was never going to happen; rumors were floated, that's all. And I have not looked into this, because what's the point, but I read that weirdly enough, that huge crowd that greeted her airplane was not actually reflected from the airplane. RFK just dropped out and is endorsing Trump. What a mess of warmongers.
Part of the problem with allowing inflation to get started and persist, is that there really is no "good" way to counter it, without throwing the entire economy into a recession, or worse. Which is why we are supposed to do everything we can to avoid inflation. This is why we get all this "soft-landing" chatter, because the alternative is the hard landing of a recession, which nobody wants.
The obvious threads to pull would be a massive decrease in federal spending, and lay-off thousands of government workers, and thus remove that money from the economy, and suffer the results.
Another alternative is to keep raising interests rates, until it crushes the economy, and then suffer that, and start trying to recover from it.
And THIS is exactly why every administration is trying so hard to avoid all of that, while continually throwing more and more fake money into the economy, propping-up the fake economy, always hoping that it will either never collapse, or collapse on somebody else's "watch".
Ergo- the "everything bubble" just keeps growing and growing, until it finally pops and most likely drags the entire world into the worst depression and financial collapse in modern human history.
And then - inflation could be 7% a month for five months, and then a 2% rate will bring claims that inflation has been beaten. I made up those numbers, but that's exactly what Biden did.
Don’t necessarily rewrite your own story. Reagan a the bastard responsible for where we are right now (actors in charge, reading their lines.) Carter got fucked. The overlords arranged economic policy to fuck him. His “guilt” was his naivete.
Well, Carter DID cut the defense budget. That was his greatest unforgivable sin to the oligarchy. But he could have done better than to listen to Volcker and Brzezinski. If he was naive and stupid, that is on him.
As I remember, his big mistake was actually firing a bunch of the three letter spooks, who then made common cause with GB to scuttle negotiations over the embassy hostages. Carter also directly inherited Nikons dissolution of the gold standard, and the shit show that caused. Looking back, I think the swamp allowed Carter to be elected as a sacrificial stooge to absorb the shit swamp caused by Nixon, knowing he would be easily disposed of. Carter never really belonged to the oligarchy.
That's right. Carter cut the CIA budget, too, and reined in some of their regime change operations.
I do remember there was a lot of talk about having to get rid of the "Vietnam Syndrome," ie a reluctance for imperial wars. Carter represented a victory for that reluctance, and he had to go.
The thing is, Ford would have won the election if he hadn't gone to Texas and tried to eat a tamale with the shuck still on. Carter barely carried Texas, and won the election. Politics can be bizarre.
My grandparents immigrated from Italy in 1920, when I came home to live with them in the 60's they had nothing but gardens behind the house. They canned and pickled, made wine and bread. I've long said we will have to get back to the old ways to survive the oligarchy, until this broke dick country collapses or a generation comes along and gives it a push.
Yeah, I catch Glenn Greenwald and understand his analysis on what is passing for this race that never included any actual voters.... For those who still need to catch a free rumble show from last night (Friday, Aug 16), you must see the panel Jimmy Dore had and Russell Dobular's SUPREME summary of Kamala Harris, who has managed to float up like flotsam to the top of a burning river that goes from Toledo OH to to Lake Erie. She is the perfect empty clown suit to point endlessly to the sky and talk about absolutely NOTHING.

Yeah, that's a real good campaign slogan: "Inflation is only 3%!!"
You'd think they'd just do the outright lie and say, "Prices are dropping by 3%!" instead. But then we might get such lies as, "Gazan children miraculously are all still alive and well and not crushed and maimed under the rubble."

The obsequiousness and drool over the Camel is absolutely disgusting.

Without OG GG, we;d be DOA.

Ps… for some reason, I can’t edit. That would, of course, be Nixon :)

My comment on Due Dissidence.

Those figures do not include the costs of food, fuel, or housing and are therefore bullshit.
Yeah, that's a real good campaign slogan: "Inflation is only 3%!!"

Dem-wits aren't too smart.
Good reminder of history's rhymes, OB. I believe the Iran hostage crisis, the rescue mission debacle and the Reagan campaign's covert shenanigans/treason dealing with Iran behind a sitting president's back were other factors that sunk Carter.
The part about voters not noticing how much better things were getting (or are getting in today's context) reminds me of something I wrote here: https://punditman.substack.com/p/gaslighting-nations
