Speaking of "woke" - trivial - I could not watch the Golden Globes because I do not have cable TV. WHY was so much energy expended on reconfiguring an awards show put on by a private group? Wokeness. And the MAJOR upsetting incident reported ad nauseum is that Jo Koy made what was actually a funny-because-f**king-true joke about Ms Taylor B(illionaire) Swift, and NO ONE has mentioned, that I can see, that when Koy was talking about Killers of the flower Moon and said "I used to think white people stole about 97% of everything - now I see you stole it all. " (paraphrasing) (Pretty much no response). Then Koy said oops, I am talking to a room mostly full of white people. IMO, THAT was Koy's misstep. No mention of Palestine, either, I imagine orders were given.

Anyway, I guess that a private group of people cannot give out entertainment awards because they are not woke enough, but the Democratic Party is also a private group and can nominate anyone they want to run for POTUS because they have embraced - and corrupted - "woke".

Just for the Taylor Swift comment, I guess I would have watched Golden set of Globes.

I still don't understand the pissiness - "the difference between the GG and the NFL is the GG has fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift" (or something like that) - how is that not funny because it is true? also showing up in a skin tight dress with one's boobs barely contained is not the mark of a Very private Person. Anyway, I was mostly interested in seeing how The Bear did - Yay!!!! - but I thought it majestically hilarious that Ricky Gervais' stand-up show won. Because that whole show - Armageddon - is as non-woke as it is possible to be.

That's hilarious! and... I'm strangely glad that I didn't know who Ricky Gervais was 🤔

Gervais has hosted the GGs several times before - and has truly nailed everyone for their hypocrisy. Here is a mild example from 2020, his opening monologue -

It wasn’t the only epic movie. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, nearly three hours long. Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and by the end his date was too old for him. Even Prince Andrew was like, “Come on, Leo, mate. You’re nearly 50-something.” and, regarding those insufferable acceptance speeches - "So if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.

So if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent, and your God and fuck off, OK? It’s already three hours long. Right, let’s do the first award."

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/transcript-ricky-gervais-golden-globes-2020-opening-monologue-1266516/ - worth reading the whole thing. They are, I think, a little afraid of him.

Another casualty of Gaza is Ukraine. It's gone from the news, and most of the money is gone. The special military operation isn't over, and every die every day - the count was 595 yesterday in a cold winter.

But like Iraq and Afghanistan, the US spent hundreds of billions on Ukraine (I can't say in Ukraine as I don't know a single Ukrainian who received help in Ukraine) only to leave destruction and an emptied country with no economy. As usual, there's a new shiny country to destroy with US weapons.

Oh, Zelensky feels that those f-16s will do the trick in Crimea. The Ukr army has established a bridgehead fairly close to Crimea and the war is almost won. The US will either prop up Zelensky/Ukr until after the elections, or dispose of Zelensky somehow and declare the conflict "won". Biggest danger is that Zelensky does some horrifying Hail Mary for more attention and money.

The F-16 is an ancient plane by 21st Century warplane standards. The Russians have surface-to-air missiles that make those things obsolete.

"It's all bullshit, Joel."--Remember Risky Business?

You're right about the biggest danger. Zelensky's already pushing with that attack on Belgorad that killed 25 civilians. Historically, Mother Russia doesn't like it when some foreigner deliberately murders her children, no matter who the head of state happens to be.

Terror attacks are an incredibly stupid thing for Ukraine to do, but the original Nazis did it with the V-1 and V-2(Dresden was partly British revenge for that), and today's seem hellbent on destroying their own country.

The 40 year old decommissioned F-16s from Denmark won't have a big impact, even if Ukraine can get them to fly, but bases for them are being built in Lvov and Krivoy Rog.

And Zelensly keeps trying, with cluster bombs targeting and sometimes making it through to civilian areas in Belgorod and Donetsk.

He can rarely impact the Russian military but civilians are an easier target - and I don't know when Russia will escalate and end this. Perhaps when Ukraine falls further apart.

595. That figure is more than the warrior-collecting Odin ever dreamed of reaping when he was having a bad day.

What the CIA calls blowback from this is potentially more horrendous than 9/11. I fear veteran soldiers seeking bloody revenge far more than I ever have Al-Qaida or ISIS.

And that is, sadly, a slow day. Here's what a former Ukrainian Prosecutor General had to say recently:

🇺🇦💀 Former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko believes that Ukrainians will be shocked when they learn the true scale of their losses on the front.

"To be honest, 500,000 which are now being discussed, if divided monthly, is around 30,000 per month. Then we will approximately understand what is happening on the front with the killed and severely wounded. People need to be told the truth. I believe Ukrainians deserve this truth. They must find out how many have died, and then all discussions about the need for mobilization will cease. This is the first step. Now there will be shock."

https://t.me/DDGeopolitics/97806

As for mobilization, there are five proposals being considered by the Rada today, and Ukraine just purchased 50,000 womens' uniforms.

I place the blame squarely on Genocide Joe and all who believed his campaign lies or had Trump Derangement Syndrome.

All of the hyperventilating woke crap did the work the ruling class of 'oilygarchs' wanted it to do: divide the American left into nasty little pods of squabbling self interest, while the class issues of poverty, hyperinflation, homelessness, lack of healthcare and a collapsing future for our children goes unaddressed. Time to get back to reality because if class issues are addressed all groups benefit and as economic distress eases, discrimination lessens without a need to make up scapegoats.

If you haven't already, check out 'Due Dissidence' podcaster Russell Doublar's recent Substack column: "The Art Scene Is Dead and the Liberal Class Killed It: Why absolutely everything sucks now".

The whole column is great, and is not just a commentary on the arts world, but the state of the nation. Scroll down for the image from a book that has -- appropriately -- been banned from school libraries. It's important to see what some of the challenged content really is.

Finally, the whole trans issue is a troubling phenomenon. I worked almost 30 years as a psychotherapist, much of that time with adolescent and young adult clients. In that time I had two -- TWO -- clients out of thousands seen who claimed they were the opposite gender. In both cases, they had huge psychiatric issues they were not willing to address and dropped from treatment. Now, under the completely unprofessional standards of "affirmative care" now imposed on healthcare providers, I would be required to go along with their delusion.

Initially, the trans phenomenon was focused on boys, but in the last few years has flipped to young and adolescent girls. There is a great book on the subject: "Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters" by Abigail Shrier. It is an excellent, very readable overview of what is happening and why bans on medical interventions that can lead to permanent medical damage and disfigurement needs to be prevented in the vast majority of cases.

Is transgenderism real? Yes, but not in the numbers we are seeing. What we are seeing now is a social phenomenon that is leading to permanent harm of kids and young people. Medical interventions need to be held off until adulthood.

I watch every clip of Due Dissidence on Rumble, and yes, I read Russell's column. I also know you stole "oilygarch" from Jimmy Dore, and that Jimmy doesn't mind.

Thanks for your psychotherapist's perspective; that's incredibly valuable information to know.

You're so classy. I would have said the following on transgenderism: What we are seeing is a fucking FAD that is leading to permanent mutilation and psychological damage of kids and young people. Medical interventions need to be held off until adulthood, and I'm not sorry if that puts some sick, grifting SOBs out of business or worse.

I think we both share the emerging American consensus on transgenderism--that decision cannot be made until one is a legal adult. We don't let children sign credit card contracts, drink alcohol, smoke pot, or vote until they are of legal age because they are not considered mature enough to make those decisions.

Changing your sex is OBVIOUSLY one of those decisions. It's an easy and popular political fix.

Dang, Dore came up with that before me? I've been using it a couple years, but -- okay -- Jimmy Dore owns it!

Trust me, I have no problem with your blunt summation of the issue. I just have that whole professionalism thing I need to respect. What is just horrible is the whole "affirmative care" standard for therapists is completely unprofessional. If I weren't retired and still in practice I'd likely be in BIG trouble.

Ohio Barbarian's avatar

Well, maybe Dore stole it from YOU! All I know is he was the first person I heard say it.

Yeah, I get it from your professional perspective. My wife lost a great pediatrician for her kids because she just could not treat her patients in the way that the HMO that had bought out her partnership ordered. This was in the early 2000s.

The government has no business telling doctors how to diagnose a condition, but since the insurance companies have been getting away with that for decades I guess the government decided it could work for them as well.

Big protest coming this Saturday in DC - some like Garland Nixon are suggesting that the participation will surpass the anti-Iraq War protests of 20 years ago when yours truly was a participant.....hopefully, the mass participation / awakening will convey to the class war that is upon us. Some Substack commentary from Karl Sanchez which is based upon an Alastair Crooke Strategic Culture Foundation essay "Something Lost Never to Be Found Again" is worth considering in all of its bluntness......"Will the twin defeats in Palestine and Ukraine be enough? Perhaps for the EU but not for NATO for that’s the tool the Outlaw US Empire uses to control its newly acquired European colonies. To liberate themselves, Europeans must oust both NATO and the EU to regain their independence, something not seen in Europe for centuries. What liberating elixir will work for the USA is currently unclear aside from the fact that it cannot consist of the current political frame and perhaps even its institutions. Like Europe, Americans have never really been liberated either so they can be allowed to improve their Union as their Constitution mandates." Sanchez concludes with the notion that darkness always comes before the dawn...Hopefully Saturday's event on the mall portends some of the dawn that is still to come....

Biden was recently bushwhacked at two campaign stops by protesters demanding a ceasefire and calling him Genocide Joe. They got him inside a church in South Carolina and gave his motorcade an eyeful when it was going either to or from Love Field in Dallas.

He really did look shaken after the one in the church.

I hope they hit him up everywhere he goes until there really is a ceasefire, and hit him up after that for something else. Biden's such a bloodsucker. His whole career is built on ruining ordinary people's lives enrich the oligarchy.

Getting back to the subject of my post, isn't it interesting that Biden's only coherent campaign message thus far is that Trump is Hitler and makes him mad? Not a mention of anything Woke. Amazing how quickly these culture war issues can become irrelevant.

Simon Winlow in THE DEATH OF THE LEFT argues that the left must have to be totally rebuilt...The traditional target of the left had been financial elites until the 1980's - then the identity politics and today's wokeness have the left fighting more among themselves than financial-political elites.....Winlow would argue that the 'wokeness' had/has moved the left away from socialism (i.e., what we have in common) and toward what separates us as individuals - essentially moving it closer to the 'live free or die' individualism advocated by the neo-liberal right......

On a personal level, I've just never been into 'wokeness' - possibly because I saw in it what Winlow saw in it but it seems in short trendy and a distraction for what should be uniting the traditional left - peace and social justice.

Wokeness is as fake left as the term itself. For me, a leftist has to be anti-capitalist and pro-democratic, in the workplace as well as government. That way, maybe we can actually have some peace and social justice.

The whole woke movement is a profitable distraction for the oligarchy. It's the exact opposite of a grassroots movement.

Well said,OB.Next to the crooked primary rigging of the Democrats, the thing that angers me the most about these so called New Democrats is their blatant snobbery—“I’ve been to college,I know everything, you are a working person, you know nothing”. Maybe we don’t know everything, but we can tell when someone is putting us down.

If you really had the best interests of the working class at heart, you wouldn’t need to put them down.FDR never did.Truman never did.JFK and LBJ never did. When they spoke of the blind spots of the working class,it was always in sorrow rather than contempt.

I'm trying to remember which wars that the US were involved with that our good chum Israel sent money, troops or arms to aid our cause.

I'm sure that Israel has come to the US offering us their aid at some time...but...Korea? Cuba?...Vietnam?... Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, or Iraq?...or, maybe they offered us words of encouragement to our efforts in Ukraine?

One would think that a history of Israel rendering such aid would be all over the news these days. I'm sure it would be fun to ask Rachel Maddow off-script, about when and where Israel has come to our aid!

Her response would likely include the words 'Russia', 'Putin' and 'Trump' so often that we would forget the original question!

And yet the US sends its good buddy Israel a buttload of our tax dollars every year and now we supply them with munitions and military support in order to continue their genocide against the citizenry of Gaza!

What an odd country the USA is. How any member of our citizenry can say with a straight face that they trust our government to do what is best...for us... or do what's best for the rest of our pale blue dot of a planet...is beyond me!
