My childhood as well. When I first read it, I was rooting for the Empire. I was maybe 12 and identified America with Rome, therefore empires must be good.
As an adult, I've read the series several times, and learned to really appreciate Asimov.
Thanks for the link. That's a great post, and the rest of y'all ought to read it.
Nobody in management at my county job has said squat to me about not taking any DEI indoctrination sessions for the last couple of years. Maybe it's because I let it be known that if I was forced to go, I'd tell everybody the trainers were a bunch of grifters and prove it by saying where their money came from; and if I was shut down I'd see them in Federal Court, which is right down the street.
Maybe. I don't know. I do enjoy their silence on the matter.
There is a group I've been asked to help with. There were some introductory emails from several members and they all had their pronouns displayed. If they had asked my preference my answer was going to be "obvious". Haven't gotten any more emails. That's fine.
All I know is that the Russia-Ukraine War is a nasty war of attrition, and that the side with the most soldiers and the most weapons always wins those wars.
I know that a Russian general predicted the war would last until early 2025, but that was a few months ago. If the House holds firm and refuses to allocate any more grift and weapons to Kiev, I would think the war would be over before the end of this year.
What do I know? I've been wrong before. I thought there would be an armistice by now, since the Ukrainian situation is so obviously hopeless. Well, the Germans were stubborn, too.
I'm really starting to wonder if the war will go on until Zelensky is gone, perhaps like Nicolae Ceaușescu of Romania. I have a friend who was in Bucharest through that . . .
But then, I doubt the US would permit that to happen, no matter who is officially the President.
Before commenting on OB's commentary two things needed to be mentioned:
Speaking of water, Southern California is getting more rain. Yes folks, it is being called an "Atmospheric River ." A brand new phrase, fresh off of the shelve phrase for our modern times. Local officials are being praised for capturing all of this water. But, anybody who has been paying attention, all reservoirs in and around Southern California were already at full. So what is being presented, needs to be taken with a grain of salt. At this point I digress about that new/old lake southwest of Bakersfield.
In Ukraine, AVDIIVKA HAS FALLEN. (Please excuse the all caps). It is currently in a mopping up status at this very moment. What is worse, there appears to be very little in defense lines to The Dnieper River. There are natural barriers and Ukraine still has an Army, but that is about it.
Talking about Alexei Navalny and Gonzalo Lira are best explained in two words:
Convenient and Inconvenient. Anything more leads you down a rabbit hole of good, evil and pure evil.
Topic, The Irish Government. IMHO, the common person is less concern with race and religion of others around the world. The common person is more concerned about having to deal with people broken in a calamity and war. To further the point, the common person is aghast their very own government are taking part in these operations . This also goes for Elon Musk, Lord of Twit World (Could not have been said better).
King Abdullah of Jordan just blew U.S. President Joe Biden a raspberry. Not only did Biden have to stand there and take it, he also had to look off into the distance and act like he was making history. Nice acting there Joe.
F-22's, no comment other than, I thought they were a waste of money in the first place.
As for any government shitting their pants, "GOOD!" Have at it... Don't run out of toilet paper!
When I was young and Seven of Nine was a hit, I thought she was eye candy. What about the other eight?
Palestine, Ohio and other areas are a disaster. On a economic positive note, the bumper sticker, "Don't Drink the Water, and Don't Breath the Air" has sold out again. This is a common recurrence since the early 1960s. As an arithmetic anomaly, that started 60 years ago.
As far as 60 years and counting in the dust of time, we will not mention President Joe's mental status. For that will be dishonoring the dead. Happy campaigning there Joe.
Avdiivka fell FAST. I was expecting it to take longer as there were troops in the coke plant, like Azovstal in Mariupol.
Expensive for Ukraine too - 1500 men and women soldiers in 24 hours, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, available at https://t.me/mod_russia_en .
I don't know what's next, but too close to our family flat. I used to take a taxi from Zaporizhzhia-
I'll bet my last dollar (actually my pocketbook is empty but you get the picture) that Biden drank bottled water in that photo op in East Palestine, Ohio. Really, after more than a year he stops by and they're still not receiving FEMA aid or an apology as to why their government left them to suffer all alone. #AbandonBiden
A feudal monarchy and a typically brutal military dictator. I would shed no tears for either, just as I shed none for Zelensky or for Lon Nol or Thieu.
Puppets of the Empire always get the axe when the Empire falls. Probably why the Saudis are distancing themselves. Real tough times are ahead for Al Sisi no matter how the Gaza Genocide ends.
"Elon Musk, Lord of Twit World, accurately observed this means that “hate speech” will mean anything some bureaucrat or MP doesn’t like," this quote from your writing made me think that he should know. He locked me out of Twitter/X with no communication to me and then deleted my account. Most of what I say has been said by someone in the past and I collect the memes to prove it. Enjoyed reading your post.
It sure does. Thank you for mentioning that.
Asimov, a giant of my childhood, sorely missed. He knew an empire when he saw one and he knew all empires perish.

Hey, I know it all looks dark, but at least the Democrats hitching up their britches and taking a stand...

So, any good news? Kamala Harris met with Zelensky?
No, that wasn't it -
Maybe the House adjourned until March so no new Ukrainian, Taiwanese or Israeli war funding for a little bit?
Maybe - but Ukrainian soldiers, now including women, are dying at around a thousand a day.
I know - the days are getting longer and spring is coming!!
I did a double entry and then deleted both. Oops.

Hitting it out the park my favorite commie friend.
About time Joe showed up in East Palestine. He probably thought he was in the overseas one whose destruction he’s been bankrolling.
Hi my Friends, hope all is well with everyone!

It was an opaque paper cup. Was there water in it at all? It would be hilarious if one of the people who could see said there wasn't.
My fondest hope is that the House of Saud falls because of its STILL STRONG ties to the US. Al Sisi as well.

The House of Saud is probably the most ruthless, brutal, killing machine in existence. I would weep with joy if everyday Saudis destroyed it.
East Palestine had better STFU or Genocide Joe will nuke it. Don't want no Palestines in the USA.
President-for-Life-Plus-100–Years "Joe Biden" could relish a gallon of dioxin: it would just give his animated cadaver a nice well-preserved sheen.
