Excellent issue man! Also thanks for turning comments for plebs back on :) The best use of carriers would be humanitarian. They could be floating hospitals and desalination plants and power plants. America could be the firemen of the world instead of the police. Rolling up the coast line of any disaster bringing healing, light, and water. But noooo. Hell, they could even use the deck space as farm land. A giant nuclear garden. /smh
The Yemenis are something, aren't they? Talk about ragtag rebels against the Empire. They've quite the long and interesting history, too, and their version of Shia Islam, the very little I know about it, seems something like liberation theology in Christianity.
Yemen's always been a trading hub. There's influences from all over the place there.
I absolutely love and admire Yemenis, specifically Ansarallah. I could tell you about their version of Shia Islam but I do not want to get into a theological discussion here. I will do a post about it in the future and then those who wish to read it can do so.
A couple of personal notes on a crazy asymmetric war world. I recognized the Dnieper dam by Zaporozhia as I've been on the road over the dam travelling between Dnipro and the Zaporizhzhia airport multiple times in Ukraine. Fortunately, it was a careful attack - otherwise Zaporizhzhia would be underwater.
Next day was the attack on Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk just northwest of Moscow. It's where my stepson lives. I checked with him when I first heard of it - he wasn't at the concert and is fine, and he wants justice. He sent me a photo of smoke from the burning building the next morning.
It's all escalating while Ukraine can - the Moscow terrorists were captured not far from Ukraine where they said there was supposed to a window across the border.
And while Ukraine can? A Polish general has said that Ukrainian military casualties should be measured in the millions, not hundreds of thousands.
Well, we'll see if the Republicans fund the continuing destruction of Ukraine after Easter.
I saw that bit from the Polish general. He, and from what I can glean Ukrainian intelligence, think a major Russian breakthrough is likely by the end of April.
The pace certainly looks like it has stepped up - but it may be just in response to Ukrainian attacks in Belgorod, Simferopol, Russian oil refineries and of course Crocus City Hall. The building of the Ukrainian Security Service in Kiev was destroyed last night - possibly along with top leadership.
But we will see how much longer Ukraine can last without people, weapons or money.
Zelensky seems satisfied to rule over the ashes of the country he has destroyed.
Globaligarchy, noun I just made up, meaning global rule of the planet by a few oligarchs.
We can always use more words in English to describe things more accurately. I've pretty much have gone to calling them either the billionaires or the puppet-masters myself.
And very unimpressed by people's lack of understanding of what it portends for the Taiwan situation. The fact that they can't grock that we will lose any long term war, as demonstrated by men living in caves, baffles me. China has twice the ship building capacity, and a much shorter logistical nightmare, and ISN'T ramming its own ships into each other the last few years outside of battle.
It can afford to lose a battle, replace ships, and win a war.
We're freaking dumb. And we've lost WW3 already. It's just about history deciding which battle to point at where the turning point was.
The Yemenis have managed to close off a relatively narrow strait with relatively primitive drones and shore-to-surface missiles. The Chinese have MUCH better missiles for sure, and I'd be surprised if their drone technology has not surpassed the US Empire's.
That's my way of agreeing with you. If some idiot President and enough foolish Navy officers obey, we could easily lose an entire task force in the Taiwan Straits, and the Chinese wouldn't have to launch a single plane or a single ship, though of course they'd use their Air Force.
Taiwan's part of China. That's official US policy. Stick to that and problem solved.
Agreed. And they're happy to keep selling us Semi's. If we were halfway intelligent, and kept the DEI out of things, they'd let us build our own. But no, we can't have nice things.
The whole Save Taiwan public thread is a fake issue intended to expend more public funds to enrich private interests. If there is one thing we ought to have learned from both the Red Sea blockade and Russia’s experience in the Black Sea, it is that the era of the Big Bad Boat has ended.
When the next serious war starts, every carrier will be sailing bottom mud in the first hours, with battleships right behind. If I were Navy watching the news, I would feel like an admiral in the era of sailing ships watching an ironclad steam circles around me.
And you would be correct. It's sad for me, in a way.
I was a surface Navy sailor on a destroyer. My cousin was a sailor on a fast attack submarine. He always said surface ships were all just targets. Now I have to admit he was right. Dammit!
Globaligarchs…I love it!

Sorry about the comments on the previous post. That was an oversight on my part, and it's fixed now.
You'd have every right to set it that way, but I'm glad it's not the plan hehe. I may be biased however :P
Can’t turn carriers into forces for good until we learn how to hide them from the IDF. Cause irresisti-freakin-bul.
We just can't have nice things. /sigh
The ACLU lost me when they defended the forced covid jabs and aligning themselves too closely with the democrat party.
They lost me when they didn't go to war against the Patriot Act.
D2. You sank my battleship!
That poor dog, so glad they saved her life. God bless Yemen 🇾🇪

That works. I'm curious.
Thank you! I will try to get something composed for the weekend.

An acquaintance in Dnipro just said that the bear is now awake and angry.
Yeah, this is another one of those awakening a sleeping giant and filling him with a terrible resolve things.
But there's always some idiot who thinks HE can succeed in conquering Mother Russia after Napoleon pretty conclusively proved it couldn't be done.
I've seen the pictures of the crowds, flowers, and huge lines of blood donors in Moscow, as well as donations for the families.
And I have been very close to Maloyaroslavitz where Napoleon was stopped -
Yes, but think how many thousands of Russian experts have earned tenure and an upper class lifestyle underestimating Russia. Have we no pity?
I have every bit as much pity for those experts as they do for me.
The slaughter will end with lip-smacking and the setting down of bloody toothpicks when the Last Ukrainian has been eaten.
The only reason our ruling vampire class doesn't bring Cthulhu back is because they are afraid he would eat them first.

Great read!
Yeah, I've been impressed by the blockade.
