Hakkaa päälle! Cut them down! It was the battle cry of Finnish units in Swedish cavalry in 30 Year War in Central Europe. At the time Finland was Sweden's eastern colony. Now mainly used for rooting for national hockey team ' Finnish Lions'
Missouri! My dad got me into a Chiefs game once. The legend of the KC tailgate BBQ is not exaggerated, and I'm a native Texan so that's a damned high compliment. Also my ancestors were among the first to settle St. Genevieve. I still have distant cousins in Missouri.
Looks like a better flea market than those around me :-)
The recent news is a challenge, though. I am angered and saddened by the US sending yet more weapons to Ukraine. My wife and daughter made it to the US from Ukraine but they still see the destruction.
We just found out a friend's cousin, someone my wife knows well, was killed in the bus station strike in Dnipro.
The US no longer has any concept of diplomacy. Now it's just a question of how many additional unnecessary deaths will be created as Joe Biden's war of choice continues. Perhaps it's symbolic that the House vote was on Hitler's birthday -
Aw shit, man. Sorry to hear about your wife's loss, and I don't know what else to say about that.
Check out Andrew Korybko's Substack about just how little of that aid to Ukraine will actually be new armaments, maybe $14 billion or so. A good chunk of it has to go to pay Ukrainian government employees' salaries so they won't quit and hasten the collapse of the Zelensky Regime.
She was happy to hear what you said, and said he was a big handsome cheerful guy.
The people in the US have no idea what extending this war does to Ukraine. I just see daily reports of about 1000 Ukrainian soldiers killed daily, and no information on Russian losses. The totals may be in the millions by now - but it's officially what Americans want!
But still, thank you for words of humor, wisdom and truth!!
Only war mongers would be pissed off about children playing on the beach , thanks for the link, will be linking it today @https://nothingnewunderthesun2016.com/
93, good lord, I had no idea. Sad he's so close to death, glad he's doing well, but should I be? He's apparently a dick, doesn't tip, etc. But people are people and I don't want anyone hurting. I'm tired of everything being complicated, I can see the appeal of late light religion/racism/etc. Just for the option of relating my brain for a few minutes.
We just did it for shits and giggles, as we used to say. My wife and stepdaughter had been there before, and because I'm an original Star Trek fan(the series started when I was 8), they thought I'd just HAVE to go get William Shatner's autograph.
The thing is, I've never been a groupie. The most I would have done if I actually got a chance to talk to him would be to say that William Windom out-overacted him, a rare event, in The Doomsday Machine. But I didn't want to do that bad enough to pay $25 and stand in line for half an hour.
And I bet he would have laughed. Shatner has no shame, but he's honest about what he is, has a sense of humor, and he's 93 so he REALLY doesn't give a shit, which I like.
All I can say is I been there, done that for maybe half my life, and we've only been able to take vacations of any sort in the last 15 years. The only reason I could do that was because my millennial stepkids paid rent because all three of them have never been able to afford their own place at the same time.
You, me and they know why that is, hence the Revolutionary in the title of my little screed.
Anyway, it was a day trip. Less than an hour's drive each way, and yes, I well remember when that was an unaffordable luxury. Yet we have always had all the money in the world for Empire.
Let's see...the House voted on A QUARTERLY $61 billion for Ukraine, plus many billions for Israel and Taiwan. Nothing for the border. In very local news, my $30 a month subsidy for internet was cancelled because "my" Congress let it drop. Yes, very small potatoes for some, but less than a year ago I was living on the remnants of old jars of pickles and mayo - well, hey, it was tartar sauce made with Duke's, so at least tasted good! and low carb! - and am doing somewhat better now, but fuck, maybe it is better to be an illegal immigrant (are we allowed to use that term? Is there a woke term for that?) in the US, since for all intents and purposes the US government is completely detached from its citizens except to make our lives a bit worse on an ongoing basis. Well, hey, getting close to November, at least we will get some totally insincere promises, or maybe they won't even bother with that this time.
And on Youtube, every once in a while, an ad pops up with Hunter Fucking Biden asking me for money.
Whatever Shatner is like in real life, I was moved by his tears upon getting to go to outer space. Although how much did that little trip cost, and how much air pollution was spewed. Then again, many years ago, I went to Cape Kennedy just to see the shuttles take off, quite a few times. Amazing and heart-stopping until things seemed okay. Now I feel like space exploration is for rich folks' benefit if things all go south, with a side of looking for profit.
4/20 - my son and grandson "celebrated", but alas, my dreams of being a happily stoned granny have been dashed to pieces. Every type of edible just makes me dizzy and nauseous and a bit contentious. For at least 24 hours. Yeah, yeah, I am already contentious, blah blah blah. I am informed that my mind just refuses to relax and let go and whatever. Habit of a lifetime, it seems. On the other hand, I have now memorized that brut is the driest sparkling wine (extra dry is sweeter than brut) and Malbec is not only good for me, but a good Malbec is dry and soft and just lovely. And the effects do not make me nauseous for a whole day and night.
The place where I am living now is surrounded with shops that sell every kind of edible and whatever, and recreational weed is on the Florida ballot in November. Although I think that my son buying bags of grass from friends and buddies is a sort of tradition that would be missed. Been years since that happened, and some of those folks were awesome. Oh, and my son has a medical thingy for pot, PTSD.
My perfect Florida, besides no money or housing worries, would be to live near the beach - I will be gone before it is underwater - and somehow also near the Beer Shed, which is one of the greatest little fairly unknown bars in the area. Right on a river, not visible from the road, mostly word of mouth. I learned there, after I moved here in 1987, that someone I would have dismissed as a redneck, from my lofty quality engineer perch, was more capable of talking about Hemingway or whatever than some of the people I worked with. With a much more nuanced political view than a Dem cultist.
Has anyone noticed that a LOT of people say "Democrat" Party now?
Pepe Escobar has a source who says Israel loaded an F-35 with nuclear stuff and intended to EMP Iran, but Russia shot it down. Most are saying no, did not happen, but Israel seems so off the rails now, I would not be surprised.
I know nothing about the F-35, except that the Russians have SAMs capable of shooting them down, and they haven't needed to use those particular ones in Ukraine, so if this thing tried to fly over Syria it's possible.
I say "Democrat" Party now just to spitefully irritate Democrats, because anyone who is still a Democrat simply can't be reasoned with so why not piss them off? Lol. I remember a time on JPR when I urged people not to do that because it was counterproductive. Oh well. Times change.
I just found out yesterday that if you pay for an office visit, you can then get a medical marijuana card for $1 in Ohio. It affects different people differently. My wife can't stand it because it always makes her paranoid. I'm lucky. It affects me like it did Carl Sagan.
Shatner. The irony is that Captain Kirk was never my favorite character when I was a kid. It was always either McCoy or Spock. But Shatner's such a legendary overactor. You remember the Twilight Zone Nightmare at however many thousand feet. He looked like he was having a great time, and people paid to see him, so what the hay.
As for mayo, Duke's is the best. It finally arrived in Ohio a few years ago. Hope your living situation doesn't deteriorate, and please wish me the same. I honestly don't know if I'll be able to stay in this house for the rest of my life, and it sucks, but that just makes me an ordinary working class American of my age bracket.
Oh, I wholeheartedly wish you and yours a safe lovely place to live!
I am lucky, I found a huge place that needs work, but no leaks or mold, and I think I can double my money and then get a small house with land when the market crashes.
Yes, Duke's is the best. Blue Plate next, and Miracle Whip way way last.
Yep, I remember that Twilight Zone episode. And the movie. "Want to see something REALLY scary?" Bwahahaha!
Jimmy Dore is growing on me, especially since I got over the Bernie thing.
I saw speculation that the Russians used an SU-65, with the approval/understanding of everyone involved, because WTF. Netanyahu has two dreams, it seems - to eradicate Iran, and to kill all the Palestinians and he has a $5 billion plan to start rebuilding Gaza once the genocide is done. With the US' eager help. To me, now, most of the politicians are buried in bodies and I cannot stand to look at them, much less support them.
The UN Security Council has to approve membership, and only then at least 2/3 of the General Assembly has to vote yes.
I can at least be grateful that out of all three LEE's in House, PA's (and my District Rep) Summer Lee voted NAY for this madness, keeping with her promise. This must show some signs of progress, with some AIPAC funded municipal councilwoman running against her in Lee's first re-election. So, I have to take that "win" when I can get it. Everyone else is out fishing... for AIPAC money, it would seem. The sacks of shit (do nothin Bob Casey and deranged zionist John Fetterman) stopped listening or hanging up on me long ago.
Who is there to admire (besides you, that is) is Niger. Thank you African nations. Tell these motherfuckers to get the hell out.
And, now... I'm off to a Jimmy Dore show (Oakmont, PA, at the Oakmont Theater), and hope to share a picture if you'll post it, OB.
Oh, hell yes I'll post that Jimmy Dore photo! We saw him in Cleveland a couple of years ago, a few months after DeWine dropped all of Ohio's pandemic restrictions.
Glad your congresscritter did the right thing. Mine is Black Barbie Drone #342, aka Shontel Brown.
There is some hope on that front in Ohio, however. Dennis Kucinich made it on the ballot in the 7th District as an independent. The incumbent is a first term slavering Zionist of a Republican I hereby nickname Mad Max Miller, the Democrat is this dude named Diemer who has WEF globalist written all over him and accordingly got trounced by Mad Max in 2022, and then there's Dennis.
Half the district used to be his. What's not includes heavily Jewish Beachwood, which will turn out in force for whoever AIPAC tells them to, and Medina County, which has a strong libertarian Republican bent. If those ornery independents and libertarians swing to Dennis, he'll win.
I have to send you stuff via email because I don't know how I'm going to share any photos or short videos from my desktop, which I'm unsure how to attach. I know this was the tail end of their Courtland, NY (an old stomping ground of when I lived in NY state), then two PA stops. I could tell how tired, he was. Steff (a.k.a. miserable liberal) opened with her own set, and she was energetic as hell, talking about the time she drove JD's car to work teaching at the high school. It was a full house and 1st time for Oakmont, PA (home of the upper crust and U.S. Open, which will be there in 2025). The energy from our audience infused into JD, and he went past his time in response. Sadly, I could get no personal photos afterwards (must have needed to make a get away w/ a flight back to CA), but I could see the transfer of our energy to him. He did a HILARIOUS impression of RFKJ. The Kennedy for Prez table was visible before this show down the street. We were approached as we exited the theater lobby by one of those Kennedy supporters who attended the show and promptly informed his frowning face that Bobby's bizarre zionism was a non-starter for thinking he'd get our support.
Yes, but you'd never see it because it's a sweep from the right wall to the center, and I'm 3rd row back on the right. Those seats were great at $35. The one's "up front, in the middle" were uncomfortable folding chairs for $50 bucks!
Thx for the shout-out and greetings from Finland 😁
Haakaa Paale!
Learned that from SM Stirling's Change novels.
Hakkaa päälle! Cut them down! It was the battle cry of Finnish units in Swedish cavalry in 30 Year War in Central Europe. At the time Finland was Sweden's eastern colony. Now mainly used for rooting for national hockey team ' Finnish Lions'
gawdDAMN I look forward to your posts! Hail, from KCMO
Missouri! My dad got me into a Chiefs game once. The legend of the KC tailgate BBQ is not exaggerated, and I'm a native Texan so that's a damned high compliment. Also my ancestors were among the first to settle St. Genevieve. I still have distant cousins in Missouri.
Great Sunday morning read!
Thanks, OB! :*)

Well I'm glad it went well and it's a great addition to your newsletter :)
The idea of traveling for fun for me is about on par with the idea of growing wings X) I'd love too, but I don't see when it'll be an option for me X)
All I can say is I been there, done that for maybe half my life, and we've only been able to take vacations of any sort in the last 15 years. Yes, I read that too; and today he claimed a second source corroborated this info. If true,
it should not be a surprise that everyone is quiet about this incident. Since Israel normally
lashes out hard I am tempted to believe it, especially since it seems to be losing on all
sides. Do you know whether it is true that - if over 2/3 of UN countries accept Palestine
as a UN member it does not need the UNSC? If so, it would be very gratifying to see
the US veto become useless.
I saw speculation that the Russians used an SU-65, with the approval/understanding of everyone involved, because WTF.
