My sister and I are both pretty much in Milton's path. We were chatting about that, and I said something along the lines of I guess we won't be getting much help from FEMA. She is a Dem cult member. She pretty much hung up on me.

Thanks! So far, I am enough inland (near Mango, Fl) that the hourly wind speeds do not look alarming. Manufactured home, almost 2000 sq feet, lots of heavy drywall and an asphalt shingle roof, surrounded by big trees that do not have huge canopies of leaves which would catch the wind. Not a flooding area. Canned food, I will boil a couple dozen eggs, we have a lot of bottled water, and Ikea, bless their heart, will deliver a bunch of their excellent tealight candles to my door tomorrow. Of course, Helene picked up speed over land - haha, how weird is that! - so all bets are off.

Do you have one of those mini solar phone chargers?

Nope. I will just tell my son to make sure his phone is charged, he does not use it much, and put that on my shopping list.

I just saw that this morning. Looks like a real MFer of a storm. I already know you will do what you can to take care of yourself, so no sermons from me, just a wish for the best of luck.

Thanks! I did just get a tip from someone - I had forgotten about this - fill the bathtub with water so we can flush the toilets. This park, and the others owned by the management company, provide their own water, we are not on county water, not sure what is involved, but maybe a smaller facility is less exposed to a storm.

I hear the roads and gas stations are clogged, DeSantis said he is setting up aid stations along major exit roads, whatever that means. People on NextDoor are saying they still have to work, but schools are closed. We have a truck, three people, a dog and two cats. I don't know how we would fit in that, much less where we could go. I would feel differently if I was not on the eastern edge of the county. I just bought some used John Le Carre novels to re-read, in case the internet is down. Still funny how a storm that was considered just a bunch of aimless disturbances coalesced into this. Just because I am paranoid does not mean someone is not after me, ya know.

I remember ignorant people with degrees in Colorado wondering why all those people didn't flee New Orleans before Katrina. There was a guy from Louisiana who practically lost his shit, explaining not everyone can just pack up and go stay in a hotel or at relatives for a couple of weeks.

I was never much into Le Carre, though I did read a couple and they were all right. Books are important. I trust you have a Coleman lantern or the equivalent.

We have a pretty good big flashlight, and candles. I will be putting all papers in trash bags. My son says this place is strapped into concrete, he could hardly get around underneath. I am not in an evacuation zone at all; just the usual all people in mobile homes must evacuate. Into seven shelters. We will have the addresses of the closest ones handy, just in case.

I like how Le Carre is so very detailed with his hints and clues. I also have watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy a lot of times, I love that movie. A lot of my favorite actors. And the TV BBC version of that and Smiley's People and The Night Manager. Although the Bad Russia stuff seems very outdated. Oh, quick recommendation - anyone who likes Tom Hardy should watch The Drop. Also has Noomi Rapace and James Gandofini (his last movie).

So anyway, off to do busywork. Someone who I consider a great friend thought it was useful to send me an email about how DeSantis is not taking Harris' calls because he says they are political.. Yes, they are, they are just a way to say she is "in touch". Friend cannot believe I do not likeHarris. Oh well.

I was just reminded that CentCom and MacDill are in Tampa. So I don't think anyone sane would point a storm at Tampa. Of course, for all I know, all the planes are gone from MacDill and CentCom is in a bunker. Wait, I looked - evidently all the planes and people are gone, according to Air Force news. It does sit right on the bay.

The path is now right through my home, I think the storm may push north a little because some big weird yellow weather thing is covering half of Florida. We will head for a shelter, or break into the clubhouse here, which is an actual building, if we need to. Our hallway has more studs than a Chippendale show, so that is a place to shelter. The roads are jammed. I will check in every once in a while if possible!

All the best, Djeann. Let us know when you can. The thing's already a category 5, so it looks like the Florida Katrina.

Hey, thanks!

Getting darker out. According to the weather.com hourly report for Mango, the highest winds will be around midnight, 65 so far, this is a big heavy place, not a little aluminum tube, asphalt shingle roof, studs, etc., the biggest problem may be flying objects and trees. I also check cyclocane for the path, it really shifts around a lot. Right now, landfall between Sarasota and Venice, that's good for me but bad for Venetians.

My brilliant plan to fill the bathtub with water for flushing purposes hit a snag when the stopper I bought (have not used the tub yet, there is no support around it, so one cannot lean on it) was too small. So - big plastic storage bins. I had put a three foot long candelabra type thing in the tub to get it out of the way, I was using a broom to pull it over to where I could pick it up, the broom handle hit a 4x5 foot oil painting leaning against the wall over the tub, the painting fell on my head, the broom handle went behind the painting so I could not put it back, and I was also holding a heavy candelabra.

That's my day so far!

I am so happy you all are still around!

Joe Biden, loser. Donald Trump, loser. Kamula Harris, loser.

Why these people are being taken seriously and not on the latest celebrity loser TV show is beyond all logic.

I mean really, can't we talk about the moose some more? In a real reality, the moose was able to get out of something...

Skirting the youtube (while programs are still available) I have heard various revelations about the US disfunction - domestically and internationally (Russia, Israel) - from Jeffrey Sachs and Chas Freeman, all of which I had sensed before but have never really put into words. So these revelations explain the depth of what as going on - i.e., per OB's 'Reflections' - but don't make it any easier...But as Patrick Lawrence has expressed you have to define the problem before you can fix them and the gravity of the crisis does not mitigate our duties to act to fix them....Such revelations - Blinken has no diplomatic experience, only government experience started as a senate aid to Biden; deep state coincided with rise of neocons/post USSR collapse under Senator 'Scoop' Jackson appointees (Wolfowitz, Perle, etc.); Nuland started out and has been in every administration since Bush I; finally US-Israeli military is being exposed as only capable of taking on the weak (i.e., bullying women and children)........

Hey, y'all, I just now got internet back - lost internet and power last Wednesday around 6 pm. Power came back yesterday. blargh. Lost all frig food. No water half of the time (we had bottled) - our par(s) have private water, no power, run on propane, out of propane. BUT - was not squooshed by a tree, my home never even shook, a little siding and skirting came loose. However, a couple of streets away, a smaller place did get totally smashed by a tree. No word on if anyone was in it; no yellow tape around it, so hopefully they had evacuated. We did not evacuate.

Have not checked news, have no idea of damage except there was a lot of power outagfe. IMO TECO is doing a great job, 6000 extra folks from all over, the guys were in Publix the other day, long line at deli counter, two guys in TECO jackets went to end of line and they were escorted to the front. Great job, even without taking Harris' call.

Wind was very scary , especially since worst was between midnight and 2am. My sister in Bradenton was okay, too, even though very close to landfall.

Hope everyone is doing super good!
