First, yay and congratulations for heat!! I'm also glad you got to see the eclipse - I was in the center of totality in 2017 and it really is almost indescribable.

As for Ukraine, my Ukrainian wife stays in touch with friends in Ukraine. She says Zelensky could have up to 40% support - no more. When she'll even talk about it, she says "Zelensky is stupid."

I see the ongoing destruction in Ukraine and of many places I've been. It's now moved to power plants, though not the associated dams. But no electricity, the new mobilization law without an end to the contract, lowered age to 25 etc etc will not help that support.

To me, it feels like it MAY be ending, unless France and the UK sent troops as they are discussing. If they do that, and Genocide Joe gets his $62 billion, then it's WW III - or WW last if it goes nuclear.

Three things to celebrate:

1. Your furnace, a solid Carrier, is back in working order. I hope it lasts another 25 years.

2. Oreo the Cat was rescued by the fire brigade. I hope Oreo stays away from chimneys and trees.

3. Awesome photo of the eclipse. We had it here in Toronto. As I wrote before, Arya the Cockatiel became quiet at around 3:20 pm, during peak darkness.

We saw birds flying around in circles, and a very confused goose, but that was about it as far as wildlife goes.

glad for the return of heat for you. How does the rest of the basement look?

Additional note: Biden mumbled briefly that they consider giving up on Assange's

extradition. Any and every false promise before the election will do, it seems.

Well, the insurance company insists on replacing all of the appliances because there was sewage backup, but first the disaster cleanup crew has to make sure nothing like black mold gets started; I guess they'll replace the floor.

It's my first time dealing with something like this. So far, the regional insurance company has been great. In the end, we'll have a new basement.

Poor kitty running from the machines like humans fleeing skynet. Glad they got him out.

Glad you have one of those HVAC's that were better made decades ago, OB. Welcome back.

You know, anyone who reads the fine print on this latest student debt bullshit should know that it applies to those who 1) have been paying a long enough time on their loans that they're almost paid off, and 2) has conditions that go into effect in 2025, so you see, ya'll you have to VOTE first for genocide Joe and hope then that whatever bits and piece you might get are left to the Senate to decide. More bullshit from the person who still can't be propped up, cause who the hell would believe Biden now unless they're like my sister (and she's the boomer who lives with the fantasy of what college got her all about circa 1969.

Some Republicans have said Genocide Joe's new debt relief plan is as unconstitutional as the last one and will never hold up in court. They're probably right. Biden's plan is designed to fail in practice, but hopefully pick up a few million gullible voters first.

It’s no accident he’s unveiling it in an election year, either.
