The world under Biden has gone insane. I am what used to be called a bleeding heart liberal, but this midterm I am going to do something I once considered unthinkable.
I am going to vote a straight Republican ticket, with the full support of my Ukrainian wife. We're tired of seeing Ukraine destroyed for a Democratic war on Russia on Ukrainian, and formerly Ukrainian, soil.
I know the feeling. In less than a month I have to decide whether or not to vote in the US Senate election in Ohio. The Democrat is a slavering warmonger who thinks a nuclear war can be prepared for and managed with the right leadership. The Republican is a loathsome hedge fund manager, but at least he said that no one can prepare for nuclear war and the government should be doing everything it can to avoid one.
He also said "I don't care about Ukraine. I care about Ohio," which is a reasonable foreign policy position IMO. At least he wouldn't support the war there, or hopefully anywhere else. The Democrat would cheer an intervention on.
What would you have me do? Not vote, vote for JD Vance the Pub, or for the Libertarian? Those are my choices. Write-in is not an option in Ohio.
It goes completely against my previously-held belief to only vote for who you want in office, but decades of voting for the lesser evil have led to this global crisis and the risk of the destruction of the planet - or at least humanity.
It's because of the Democratic cheer-leading for nuclear war I recommend voting for Republicans this election. Maybe, just maybe, Congress could then defund the war machine, or get Biden removed from office.
Of course, there would be other consequences, but at least we will be here to argue about them!
No, I don't think that. Now there are a few who are opposing imperial war funding, just like there used to be a few Democrats who did the same. Both parties have been mostly pro-war and intervention since World War II.
Besides, I would never trust a capitalist hedge fund manager, but at least he's saying the right things on the Most Important Issue IN THE WORLD right now. Does he mean it?
Yep. Every new military expenditure is instantly approved by both parties, so what can you do?
Other than Tulsi Gabbard, it's hard to think of ANY political actor who actually talks about these things in realistic terms. (Did you happen to hear her on Joe Rogan? SO straightforward and full of common sense!)
Better? I just hope that there are more who see the current war against Russia and the threat of nuclear war as insane.
It took a Democratic administration to completely ignore the Minsk accords and scale up a frozen war to the point where it is destroying Ukraine, the Western economies and maybe a world war to destroy the West.
Maybe. But let's not forget Trump's eagerness to arm Ukraine - not to mention his efforts to quash Nord Stream. For all that bullshit about him being "Putin's puppet," he was a quite the Cold Warrior.
I don't know what Ukraine, the US, and the West would be like today, but I have my doubts that European statesmen would be telling their citizens to put on a jumper, and add a second old jumper, to live at home in winter, let alone sending all their military supplies to Ukraine.
Under Trump, I could visit Ukraine. Under Biden, well, the last airport in Ukraine I flew in and out of is now in Russia.
I'm 67 and until the DNC cheated I was always a Democrat and usually voted straight party ticket. After living through the last seven years or so, and learning who the DNC really is, things changed for me. I recently sent in my absentee ballot for Michigan. I voted third party where I could and I didn't vote for either Democrats or Republicans if there was no other choice. I don't think they've left us any other choice but to take our votes elsewhere.
Also, I've been a lurker at jackpineradicals.com for years and was so sad to see it end. I recently just went to their website on a lark and it was working! So glad it's back! :*)
Likewise on withdrawing from the Democratic Party....The 2020 primary merely validated what was evidenced in 2016.....Further the the 'Hillary would have won and Russiagate dramas' and the multiple disasters we now face during the 'crash test dummy posing as the President of the United States' (attribute to Escobar) presidency says it all...Then there's the looming disaster unfolding with NATO nuclear exercises unfolding in Europe so we may not be lucky enough to make it to the next elections. Thanks for the JPR tip - hope to see you there. PassionateProgressive
To wax (eloquent +/-) a bit. I have been listening to DVDs in my car and pulled out some anti-war singers from the early 2000's - one of which I picked up at the 2004 VfP convention. As I listen to the lyrics, the left seemed so much powerful then but only to become neutralized under Obama. But then I'm thinking a little deeper and ask myself - was it anti-war or anti-Bush which was a carry-over from the illegitimacy of the 2000 election, and unfortunately is so reminiscent of Trump-Russophobia of the 2016 election. Historians will have to decide. The imperialist / interventionist project that some attribute to the 2003 invasion of Iraq actually started under Clinton with the wars on Yugoslavia which were rationalized/propagandized under R2P (responsibility to protect)....But in my view, this was the start of the twenty-first century's war for control of planetary resources which, at the end of the day are finite....Per the Wolfowitz/Albright philosophy, the US had to strike while the Soviet Union was down and before it began to surge. Both parties want this world domination and one only has to listen to Ursula Van der Leyen's (Multipolarista's Ben Norton covered it with analysis) recent EU speech to realize that the US-Anglo empire has brought or is trying to bring Western Europe along with it.
Eloquent insights indeed.Remembering the difference in reaction to Bush’s war and this,it does make one wonder if the Democrats were just mad that they didn’t have a nice big war of their own to feel all elated about.
Several revealing features about the appearance of the Crimean Bridge postage stamp: the speed with which it appeared so soon after the sabotage indicates there was prior knowledge. Secondly, that the picture shows two explosions - suggest that the plot/scheme was much grander but there was a flaw in same's execution.
Yeah, there was only one truck bomb. Apparently there were supposed to be two of them. The poor British and American spooks. Good help is so hard to find these days.
First of all.. so happy that JPR is back although like everyone else I am a little paranoid about it,wondering who restored it and why.
Secondly..like you,OB,I am quite torn.Tim Ryan is out as a vote, because of his war stance,so it’s a choice between Vance or not voting(my first option.).I don’t trust Vance because he will say whatever he has to for election purposes,so his isolationism might not be real, but what the heck, give it a shot.Ryan has been there donkey’s years and never done a thing for the working class of Ohio.
Plus, my worthless union, from which I just resigned, is backing him. They refused to support my union local when we voted to strike but they send my dues to the DNC and Tim Ryan? I might vote for Vance just to piss some people off.
Or I could vote Libertarian. At least they're anti-war.
Just sent in my request for an absentee ballot.I have decided and will reluctantly vote for Vance. He’s better than Ryan on war…and I want the chance to make an anti war vote.
The parties are totally, but gradually, switching around,it seems to me.Republicans will someday be in actual legislative record the party of peace and the working class, while the Democrats have already become the party of Wall Street and the professional class.

And you really think Republican foreign policy is "better" in some real way? Personally, I doubt it.
For all their squabbling over trivia, the two parties seem pretty much indistinguishable when it comes to military and "defense" spending.

Trump was talk - Biden did.

Looking forward to additional reports. Thank you.

Yet another who left the Democratic Party because of 2016.And between their McCarthyism and war mania,I will not be back.
