Well, the silver lining is that it was a quick clean break. Didn't have to go through any stages of grief, or have to dread with anticipation the moment the lights went out/the line went dead.

Thanks OB. I'll miss the trivia and the music threads. (Oh yeah and the political stuff. :-) Nice to be able to talk to people smart enough not to fall for Russiagate, Trump derrangement syndrome etc.)

I'm glad a few of the old gang have resurfaced here.

Thanks for this OB. I miss JPR and am looking for some kind of replacement, but I don't believe there is much out there at the moment so I guess I'll just lurk around!

Since I cannot always be on line, I missed the demise of JPR. Thus I don't know what caused it. As I

detest censorship, I had a few issues with the site, but generally enjoyed it, because there were some rather knowledgable and insightful participants. So I am sad that the site is gone and am a bit

at limbo for the moment.

JPR died a slower death than most would known, due to administration relationships over the last few presidential cycles which put the admin's in a financial pickle. Ever true to keeping it from becoming anything like SV, it went through some big expenses to keep it from getting that way. Then, the anti-spam stuff necessitated more money. By the time sffh/LoE were through all that, Steve's health took a big hit, and he simply did not have the kind of backup he needed. This is a great tragedy, but there have been many tragedies over the last few years. That's why it felt like the air stopped. I am finally getting over a morose need to blame it on this or that. It is the story of loss, and we have in part found a good bit of ourselves here, haven't we?

Being a part of JPR from the beginning was an experience I wouldn’t have missed for anything. What a wild ride!! Bronco busters and Playing For Change….LOL I loved it! I couldn’t contribute very much but I enjoyed what I was able to do. The end was sad, sorry to say…but we’re here and something will come of it, if it hasn’t already.

Thanks for the background MMM, you’re a peach!

Edited to add:

Thanks OB for giving us all a place to land…hugz to you and your family, I hope someone finds Enthusiast…

Like Pam2 said, JPR has been up since last month, same as it was before crashing. Meanwhile, soryang PM'd me to say that the place I went seeking YOU, Haikggal, which was caucus99percent (C99 for short) has crashed very recently! Anyway, see if you can login to JPR, Haikugal. I'm testing a theory that if you remembered a password, you'd be able to login.

Dudes. I went through some odd stages. First I thought hey, this happens every once in a while, JPR will be back. Then, after a few days - I got the CTs. Did we get shut down? Did I say f*** too many times, and my IP address was blocked? F***!!!! Oh, wait. Then I found out what happened, and bought 3 $1.5 billion lotto tickets, so I could take care of, well, every damn thing, but alas. My dreams of JPR and a new roof were dashed.

I don't know of anywhere else to go, really. Sometimes I peruse Dipwad Underpants, because they do post like madmen, and it is just like Opposite Day. I have to stop when my eyes start rolling too much.

I miss JPR. There are some YouTube channels like The Dive that are interesting, and of course there is the fabulous OB here, and I keep up with Indian Punchline for a more global sense of what is happening. Of course I miss the politics, but, like Pam2, I also miss the music and humour and entertainment threads.

Thank you for this thread.

I actually cried when I realized JPR was no more. From the time of its inception it was my go-to site for incisive political comments and headline news.Eventually I joined, though I contributed little.I loved the place,it was such an alternative to the status quo.I am just glad to see so many here.Thank God I wrote a lot of the best posts and quotes into notebooks so I can always go back and read them.I still grieve for the best political site there was.

Just want to add that JPR has finely tuned my instinct to suss out what someone is really after when I read an article or post. As in - a long and winding bloviation about Trump is almost always a VFTBNMW production. Deflection. In addition, I guess I have been sheltered, but I had never really noticed "war porn" before, and that was unsettling and disgusting. Plus - authoritarians sure show their imperious little stripes quite clearly, and it is very interesting to me which people express how they feel about a subject, but others get quite hilariously livid when they encounter folks who do not agree with them. Covid attitudes sure were fascinating - but I never once read anything at all that induced me to change my mind about not getting The Jab. But always entertaining when some think scorn is effective. Yes, I can be quite scornful, but I never think that would change someone else's mind about something. On the other end of the spectrum, good to know there are awesome and articulate people on my wavelength out there, even though I will likely never actually meet them! And I wish I was more articulate, or something, but my thinking tends to be quite "boiled down" by the time I get to writing something, also my ADHD means, for my way of thinking, everything is connected, so I digress and digress and digress. Cheers!

yeah, I cannot sign in. Haha, just looking at the "latest threads" page. is sort of like a comforting teddy bear, though. Weird - I found a "community forum" website where evidently I used to be a member, and you still are - my name has been deleted, perhaps I was kicked out for being rude! It will come back to me. Thank you for this thread and all of the above comments.

JPR transcended geographic distances and was genuine social media where everyone regardless of ideological perspective/social economic status had a voice.

I did engage in ct/wondering what happened - were members too radical in their pov's so much was covered and will be missed from Bar and Grill to GD/Videos/Late Breaking News. It's difficult to express the impact -

Well, I would have posted about this at JPR - I live a bit south of Tampa, and am constantly refreshing the spaghetti models. Hoping the Pinellas Indians' sacrifice and/or buried beach treasure spell still holds the hurricane back out in the Gulf. And I hate the name Ian for a hurricane, anyway, it sounds as if it should be spoken with a nasal Brit accent.

While I am at it - I had posted that I thought the inflation rate would go a bit down in September, the SS COLA for 2023 will not be 10%, and the inflation rate will go right back up in October. When Biden was asked about high inflation affecting Americans, he said hey, it has been going up incrementally, not all at once, so Americans are fine with that. I just hope that any COLA will not be decreased AFTER the November elections, in the name of "for that addled clown elensky", who has been been begging for nukes for over a year, and, IMO, would nuke Russia immediately.

Okay, back to hurricane models, and mentally pushing Ian out to the middle of the Gulf!

That's my actual little face, by the way, only I was 53 or so. That is still how I feel! Seems, really, like yesterday.

Hello all. True to my namesake, I got lost and am terribly late to the party, er, um wake. Thanks so much OB for opening up your place for your fellow comrades in mourning. I thought maybe I broke JPR by posting "It can't happen here" by the Mothers of Invention at 3:30 a.m. that final night, then wooosh it happened!

Its good to see so many friends here, and like everyone, I've been devastated by the loss. I really feel homeless now, as JPR was not just my homepage, but where I felt comfortable, and accepted. I'm doubtful that I'll find another site with so many independent thinkers, and news-media savvy people again. I appreciated the many genuine voices, and that includes many of those who were banned, or left the site on their own over the years too. Its tough being an old school leftist these days, and most places don't want us (well, me for sure!). I can't see me myself joining any other discussion sites, I really don't think I'd fit in. So its nice to say both goodbye and hello at the same time to everyone from JPR. Thankfully OB is great writer, so there's good reason to visit here whenever he pens something new.
