Here is a prediction - Cornel West is this cycle's Bernie. He will end up giving his money and endorsement to Biden. Or whoever the DNC anoints if Biden cannot make it to the finish - or, I guess, the starting - line.
Bernie filled STADIUMS. I haven't seen any sign of enthusiasm for any candidate other than Trump. I read Cornel's campaign policies - Ukraine isn't even mentioned. Lots of nice ideas, but limited specifics.
I think Bernie would have won if the DNC hadn't sabotaged him - I don't see the same interest for Cornel.
The DNC would never risk another actual "Bernie", methinks. This is all merely me cynically speculating, but I think West is expected to just scoop up any progressives who are not resigned enough to skip voting altogether, because, again IMO, Stein is never going to be a contender, that time has passed, and there still may be some money and votes out there to be purloined. And already I think West's campaign has been cast as well, he is bringing up things in the conversation that need to be addressed. But we know all those things will be stamped Return to Sender once the election is over. I certainly would not vote, if I was going to vote, for someone who thinks Biden is the very opposite of Trump. Nope. Anyway, just an expensive reality show now, with dreadful consequences no matter what happens. And, IMO, Bernie may have always known that.
Pre-Daou. We live in a post-Daou world. Cornel West went from class based to race based in two shakes of a lamb's tail. Pretty sure that is why this writer said "no thank you". Same here. Cornel completely changed his message. I wasn't on board with another identity politics lecture either. And that's what Cornel became.
OK, I answered my own question. It certainly does look like Daou was all up in the Clintonista neoliberal bullshit for some years, before moving to Sanders and now West. Maybe he’s about nothing but grift. But I did find this fairly recent quote from him:
“I consider myself an independent leftist. I haven’t always been in that place. For a long time, I worked within the Democratic Party, and slowly moved toward the left, to the point where I quit the party in 2020. And, having done that, I look much more objectively at these arguments that Republicans are far, far worse and far, far more dangerous than Democrats, and if Trump gets elected again, it’s the end of the world, it’s the end of the country.
“When we say we’re protecting democracy, there’s an assumption there that there is a democracy. You only are given two choices. And both parties are responsible for that. It’s certainly a threat to democracy to take Joe Biden, who 67 percent of Democratic voters in a recent CNN poll do not want to be the Democratic nominee.”
So how does that translate to “identity politics”? Oh, and what’s wrong with focusing on both class AND race, btw?
And as I responded to the other commenter here, if West (aided or not by Daou) doesn’t make the grade at this point, who does?
IMO, the days when everybody picked a favorite and then stayed with them through thick and then are gone, for many people. West seems to have veered away from his original campaign hooks.
Well, it is not like checking boxes really means squat - the corrupted machine cranks on and on. Veers into lesser evil crap, really, and some of us are not playing that game any more. Also some of those unchecked boxes are horrendous. Personally, I do not consider that I have to support anyone at all; I just find it interesting to compare campaign rhetoric with what actually happens. Sort of like some stupidly thinking that signing on to a progressive bill that will NEVER happen makes a politician progressive. No, it is just posturing for votes and money.
Question. How many of the "teeny bit famous" crowd on Twitter (that get maybe a few hundred likes per post)- how many of these people are paid empire operatives?
For example, I came across a potentially good podcast that ended up sucking because one of the hosts- Ryan Knight- was so goddamn annoying. And he wouldn't shut up. So this guy is "ProudSocialist" on Twitter but said he's supporting Cornel West. AFTER the Daou reveal.
So people like that. Are they dumb? Or paid? Or WHAT? Is he trying to get a job?
I just feel like I encounter so many people on Twitter that I think MUST be paid to say such stupid stuff.
It was reported that Michelle Obama was being considered as a presidential candidate. Because she came from a working class back ground , she was disqualified as she couldn't be "trusted".
After his retirement Barack Obama said he would have liked to serve a third term... I wonder why?
There is speculation Biden might get hook and not allowed to run?
Biden is Obama's third term - Ukraine war, and Biden certainly isn't making the decisions. When Biden was asked about the auto workers' strike, he said "I don't think they will strike" - after the strike had started.
Sen. Barack Obama’s wife and three close advisers have been involved with a program at the University of Chicago Medical Center that steers patients who don’t have private insurance — primarily poor, black people — to other health care facilities.
Michelle Obama — currently on unpaid leave from her $317,000-a-year job as a vice president of the prestigious hospital — helped create the program, which aims to find neighborhood doctors for low-income people who were flooding the emergency room for basic treatment. Hospital officials say such patients hinder their ability to focus on more critically ill patients in need of specialized care, such as cancer treatment and organ transplants.

I’m confused. I thought you favored Cornel West.

Huh. Just wondering who would check all the boxes at this point.

OK, I get it. Thank you for an honest answer.

They know Biden will never win, and Kamala's hopeless, so they'll probably pull some shenanigans at the convention and nominate whoever.
In Chicago. Guess that's appropriate.
