A very powerful piece, Mr O B.

A conventional presentation of shared history, offering tremendous insight, plus rational, if rather stark, conclusions. 💚🙏

Thank you. The Zionists are proving Mark Twain correct when he said it's not the things that you don't know that will kill you, it's the things you KNOW that just ain't so.

The Zionists "know" that they have unconditional American support, and that their partisans control most of the levers of power in the Federal government. They "know" that Israel can do pretty much anything it wants and get away with it, and that's been true for almost 60 years.

They're going to wake up one day and find out that this is no longer so, and the more horribly they behave, the sooner that day will come.

Cutting off all food is not a good look, and this poll was taken before they did that. I wish I could do something about all those women and children who are going to die, but I can't. All I can do is to say what everything I know tells me is coming, and there's no intellectual challenge to it at all.

That makes it even worse in some ways. My uncle, a civil engineer who was one of the gentlest men I've ever known, was a WWII veteran and said passionately that Nazis were good only for killing. He'd been to Bergen-Belsen in May, 1945, and Dresden as well.

I have never understood him so well.

Hopefully, you are right, but it is now illegal to criticize Israel, even if that is because one expressed sympathy for Palestinians. Students can get deported/dismissed/lose student loans. And the GOP just voted to get rid of an agency that supposedly kept people from being debanked due to opinions not approved by the government. Thing is, with the internet, the government can, and has, and does, see everything everywhere all at once. And records it. IMO, the uniparty is owned big time. They do not care what we think. Just my opinion.

I fear there is going to be a huge conflagration - not between Russia and the EU twits, but between Islam and Israel's Zionists.

Yeah, dark for a Sunday that started with getting someone else's Walmart delivery, being told to keep it, and finding out it was whipped cream and EGGO French toast sticks, which are sweeter than just eating sugar, but with a chemical overlay. I do not deliberately never buy any processed food, time was when I just could not afford it, so got out of the habit. Taste buds do change! Also, some CORE PH water that is somehow flatter than bottled water, and some bread. Blargh. Would have been nice if there had been EGGS.

I appreciate you sharing family stuff, thank you for that and for the article! My father refused to buy Made in Japan stuff. Never changed. My ex-husband once wrote a letter to the editor (remember those? I had not realized they were hand-picked.) He said he would be happy to drop atom bombs on Japan again any time.

The real galling irony most people missed was that those same Zionists post-WWII claiming to represent the interests of all Jewish people had abetted the Nazi Holocaust of European Jews to justify Zionism as preplanned "solution." There's hardly a fact of reality not provoking Zionists to greater exasperating dread when pointed out.

I know. That's a dark, dirty little secret they definitely want in the memory hole. Jews happy about the Nazis because that would give other Jews incentive to reclaim a Holy Land from Bronze Age myth?

Yes, that was exactly what they were. Pretty twisted stuff.

'...most Americans are aware that the Israelis are doing exactly unto the Palestinians as the Nazis did unto them...'

This crucial awareness can't spread and intensify fast enough. It also needs to lead to massive boycotts and strikes to grind down the corporate machine and military industrial complex that support the US empire and Israel.

Amen to everything you said on this topic, with ONE caveat, it is the realisation that none of this horrible campaign against the Palestinians would have been possible without American support. I think this is why the US is now being generally regarded, by the rest of the world, as a pariah nation just like Israel. I so hope and pray that the good people of the US will have an accounting !! I know, that's not going to happen, but I am ever optimistic.

Exactly. Israel could never existed without America, is not able to go on existing without America, but that support is crumbling. Our government can keep it going for awhile, but they cannot do so forever. There are already elements in it that don't want to, and they will only grow.

Every vote in the General Assembly, a forum where the USA has no veto, starkly demonstrates the USA has alienated the decent opinion of humankind. We are shredding with both hands any claims we have to moral leadership. It is disgustingly pathetic to watch.

The other thing worth considering is the theology of Premillenial Dispensationalism. It's the idea that Christ's return will come after the third temple is built in Jerusalem. This is the basis for almost all American support for Israel. The Christian Zionists are even more strongly pro-Zionism than Jewish Zionists. Sometimes they even shock Israelis with their extremism.

You are probably familiar with this theology from the famous "Left Behind" films.

Thankfully this heresy is on the down. It began because of Darby and Schofield, but has persisted because evangelicals never used to hear any different. Now they do, and are leaving dispensationalism behind in droves.

If anything ends US support for Zionism, this trend will be it.

Between 2006 and 2020 the Southern Baptist Church lost 14% of its membership. Some within the SBC have adapted, particularly the academic/seminary side, and have called for a covenant theology based view of the biblical narrative (a competing framework). The SBC is the most notable premillenial church in the USA.

Other denominations which aren't premil are on the rise. Like Eastern Orthodoxy.

They're figuring it out. It's worth remembering just how fringe a view this was not too long ago. It only became a thing with Darby and Schofield in the 1800s, before that legit all non-fringe Christians were amil or postmil.

Darby and Schofield! Thanks! Those were the original snake-oil salesmen. People like Hal Lindsay and later, John Hagee, added to their nonsensical pyramid of profitable prophecies.

The Southern Baptists aren't nearly as monolithic as many people, especially non-Christians, think. And many of them actually READ the Bible, and are just as capable of seeing through dispensational BS as any agnostic.

I think JC below is correct. This movement is reflected in the poll I highlighted. Most American Christians don't like seeing women and children slaughtered in job lots anymore than anyone else does, and starving children to death isn't exactly what Jesus stood for, is it?

I think you make a great point. This whole modern dispensationalist nonsense started with people like Hal Lindsay and his book The Late Great Planet Earth whenever that was, 60s? 70s?

The Jews must build the Third Temple upon the ruins of the old and make animal sacrifices again, and then and only then will Jesus return. It's always been bullshit. The Bible itself destroys the argument. Did Jesus not say "I shall come like a thief in the night; you shall not know the hour of my coming," as well as promising to return with a sword?

And why in the multiverse would a deity need mortals to build a fucking temple before it can do anything, anyway? Like Zionism, dispensationalism makes no sense.

And it's also the demographics. Younger Americans are more likely to either have gone to university or have friends who did so and on campuses Israel's name is Mudd.

Expand full comment
Ohio Barbarian's avatar

It's way more widespread than that. I know plenty of young Americans, who can never go to university because it's unaffordable, who positively despise Israel and all its works.

Why? Tik-Tok, for one. They've seen what the Israelis themselves livestreamed and bragged about.
