West doesn't surprise me. But I need to trust my own writing. If I do that then I can call it now. RFK will not go libertarian, because he was always just another actor in the TV show. That his dialog so often contains the truth doesn't change that he's playing a role. I must admit to thinking maybe just maybe about him. His first red flag was singing the praises an the great apartheid police state. But it's boiling down to 1 trillionaire out there. Did I really think they'd let me vote that money away from them?
The thing about West's capitulation is that his faux candidacy set the alternative parties (Greens, People's Party +/-) back months for having a candidate of this stature to run in 2024. And I don't trust RFK for that reason - to state the obvious he's in the club that you and I ain't in. But the fundamental question has to be asked whether or not a/the 'political leader' can resolve the fatal flaws that our country has come to reckon with. I answered that question long with RFK, jr.'s candidacy....
I really don't know about the alternative party setback part, since Howie Hawkins' Green Party was such a pathetic joke in 2020, and then Jill Stein, of all people, invited Peter Daou in as West's campaign manager.
He was the punchline to a joke that had already gone stale.
Well Peter Daou was the 'red flag' for me which to paraphrase Due Dissidence - never ignore a red flag....I mean when has Daou's involvement in ANY campaign done them any favors....But there had been other red flags prior to Daou and one of them was during the Jimmy Dore interview when West played the 'Donald Trump is a fascist' card - and refusing to admit the same-worse flaws in Joe Biden...
I suspect the big reveal about Dr. West WAS that very interview, which is why I continue to use those programs to follow the seriousness of "independent" candidates. I think it was too early for Dore to press RFKJ as to why he believed the propaganda about Palestine.
Well this is just a gut feeling but what I think will happen is that at the end of the day, RFK will withdraw in exchange for a few nominal concessions and the promises of a cabinet position and the assumption of the mantle when it's his turn. Aside from Newsom, the Democratic Party is getting to be a gerontocracy and needs some new faces....But I seriously doubt he has the will and/or means to change the existing power structure.
There is serious, then there is not being serious. When Dr. Jill Stein ran for office, she was being serious. When she took the Democratic Party to court, she was being serious. During the 2020 election cycle, The Green Party became a tattered sail in the wind. The Green Party became an abstraction to take up your time, money, and energy for the sake of keeping the status quo.
The People's Party had a good start with many voters interested in pursuing a government for the people. But it turned into we need to wait for this, we need to wait for that. Then something along the lines of the “MeToo” burn came into play. Of course, that was a ploy. The answer to remedy this ill was to wait some more, which is the case today.
As for a rehabilitated Peter Daou, do not get me started on that B.S. That man represents the ratchet effect. The Republicans move more to the right, the Democrats keep it that way. With Daou around, The Green Party went from tatter sail to sinking ship.
As for what is going to happen, there are going to be two, maybe three new wars. Israel has been going over-the-top violent, and it just got a lot worse. There may be plans for the country of Georgia to become a hot-spot again. As for Iran, that is a big country and they can fight back. If you thought Iraq was bad, first carpet bombing this or that area, then mowing over the countryside with tanks and driving into Tehran will not work there. We do not have enough armaments to do that. Besides, how will we kick China in the teeth?
Here is what we will definitely see. You know, that video of Hillary Rodham Clinton at the Hilary Rodham Clinton awards show… That will be replayed to the point of retina burn. More divisive actions taken by Big Money, Persons of Fame, and The Powers that Be. It is going to Covid-19 on steroids, Nazis who are real Nazis who are saluted proudly, a big list of people who need to be banned from society, and a lot of old words with new definitions. Get ready, because here it comes.
Daou? Don't get me started on that Phalangist DNC apparatchik. That was another great big red flag, so big I'm not at all surprised that West just did this, the worst possible thing he could do to his presidential campaign.
I imagine he'll make a quiet, graceful exit before November of next year.
And then write a book.
Israel...hmmm. ABC just said that Hamas fired at least 5000 rockets into Israel, and infiltrated illegal Israeli settlements using everything from pickup trucks to paragliders. The Israelis will go rabid nuts on Gaza, there will be a new Intifada, and we'll hear shrill calls for a war against Iran.
Even from an imperialistic military point of view, that is a Very Bad Idea. If it happens, be prepared to watch what happens here at home after Iran sinks a couple of Navy aircraft carriers. Fun times. I'd rather it didn't happen, but I don't make policy.
Georgia? I just don't know enough to even make a guess.
I agree with your implicit take on West- this isn't stupidity or ignorance guiding these decisions. It's disappointing to hear people interpret it that way. It's plata or plomo. West came out as a unifying candidate then abruptly changed into a divisive mess. That ain't ignorance.
I un-enrolled from Cornel West's listserv after the Dore interview. I still get occasional emails, to which I respond, "Fuck off Cornel West, you fucking traitor."
Sounds like what I did with Bernie's after March 2020. I never signed up for emails from West, and now I'm glad I didn't. Especially after Bernie gave my email to the DNC and I got so much junk from them I had to change my email.
Yeah, I doubt either of these candidates are truly serious at helping the workers. There in it to sell books or promote their image, IMO. (You'll like what I'm posting this coming week here. I'm not giving Cornel West any outs for screwing the Greens over. We had over 30 states in hand and plans to cover the remainders as the start dates came up for them in 2024. Very stupid move to dump all that free ballot access that will cost him over $2 million with paid petition circulators according to some.)
Though I might have gone out to vote for West/Greens in 2024, I had no illusions about signing up for emails, etc. let alone giving them $$$...The idea for West was as Kshama Sawant had said was to at long last give momentum and gravitas to a non duopoly party...West is smart enough to read the tea leaves from his and Kennedy's campaign to know that if he carried through he could be accused of losing Biden (or whomever replaces him/the DNC the 2024 election) and thereby cost him access to his social circles....I learned my lesson in 2016. Though in 2020 I did bring food to the Sanders' NH campaign office and gave them a few bucks but the support that I had provided them in 2016 dropped significantly...After that, I registered as an independent but mysteriously got calls from Democratic Party campaigners....
I concur as an ex-leftist anti-technology, anti-war reactionary.

Hmmm.... That's a phrase I use with subsequent Bernie Sanders emails that continually like being given my response. They obtained the list, after all.
